 2023 Preview

Highland Home completed the 2022 season with a 12-2 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region three, the Flying Squadron earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Highland Home made a nice playoff run in 2022, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good B.B. Comer team by the score of 44-15.

No team at Highland Home ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year.

Since 2010, Highland Home has gone a combined 82-65. Their 55.8% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Highland Home has managed to compile a record of 159-123. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 2A and 132nd in the AHSAA.

The Flying Squadron are led by head coach Will Pouncey who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 29-20 over the past four seasons at Highland Home. Under his direction the Flying Squadron have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Pouncey.

The Flying Squadron will have an even better defense in 2023 with several key starters returning to lead the charge. This could be another great season for Highland Home.

The Flying Squadron are considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Flying Squadron are making another deep run into the playoffs.

Jakaleb Faulk and C.J. May are considered two of the top prospects in the class of 2025. Both will be to lead the defense this season.

The Flying Squadron open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Providence Christian on Friday, August 25 at Clay Stadium. Last year the Providence Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 3A region two. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Straughn by a score of 19-7.

Highland Home and Providence Christian have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Flying Squadron have a 3-0-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2022 with Highland Home winning by a score of 28-6.

Highland Home lost 2A All-State  defensive lineman Keldric Faulk to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.
